微软开发硬件产品的技术仍需加强
微软长期以来的表现都显示了其不擅长开发硬件产品，其对于Zune、Kin手机的开发都以失败告终。而这次在Surface RT上又再遭挫败，再次表明了其开发硬件产品的技术仍需加强。
虽然微软在硬件领域屡遭滑铁卢，但不得不承认其打造Surface平板电脑的决定是完全正确的。从未来的发展趋势来看，微软要想在未来的PC市场取胜，就必须推出自己的平板电脑来对苹果的市场地位进行冲击。
微软需单干，因合作伙伴无法全力投入
尽管微软联合了惠普、戴尔、联想等众多大牌公司联合打造Windows 8产品，想要将Windows 8的潜力发挥到极致，从而遏制IPAD的发展，但事实上并有一个公司能像苹果一样全心研发一款新产品，因此微软不得不被迫单干。
作为笔记本Surface价格偏高，作为平板又过于笨重
IHS iSuppli分析师罗达-亚历山大表示，同样退出了Windows RT产品的几家制造商，也同样面临着销售低迷，无法清空库存的问题。而造成这种问题的原因主要是Windows RT产品的评价普遍不高，很多用户认为Surface Pro只是传统笔记本的变异产品，并非一个真正的平板，因为它既大又厚重，而作为笔记本，售价899美元的价格又过于昂贵。加上媒体的放大效果，导致其他Windows RT产品同微软的Surface RT产品一样折戟于PC市场。除此之外，应用缺乏也是造成其销售业绩不佳的原因之一。

Surface RT遭遇滑铁卢罪魁祸首就是不够成熟的Windows 8系统。微软在开发Surface RT时，只是希望将成熟的PC技术转移至平板电脑上，而忽视了平板的特性，导致了Surface RT糟糕的用户体验。
虽然微软Surface RT折戟于PC市场，但微软表示不会放弃对Surface 的研发(微软新一代Surface正处于测试阶段：http://www.kkzj.com/)。未来将会检视自身，推出更薄更轻，待机更长的平板。同时会一并完善windows8系统，给用户更好的体验。
