1、用途不同

路由器作用其实是可以一个网线使几台电脑可以达到同时上网，起到一个分配的作用;而光猫又叫做调制解调器，电脑通过它才能进行拨号上网。

2、连接位置不同

路由器上面连接的光猫，下面连接电脑;而光猫上面连接电话线，下面就要连接路由器。光猫拥有一个专供光信号输入的接口，而路由器就没有。

3、外形及端口不同

路由器的外形以及端口(有线路由器以及无线路由器)，而光猫有两种比较常用的端口：一个接电话线，另外一个接RJ-45口(网线);还有一种带有路由器功能的猫(路由器以及猫为一体的)。
