现代的个人计算机的发展最主要是基于微处理器的研发，起初1969年intel为日本计算机公司Busicom制作微处理器，但是后来intel发现这个项目的潜力巨大，于是退还了日本公司给intel的六万美元专利费，而开始自主研发微处理器，终于在1971年英特尔公司推出了第一个微处理器4004，这为以后的个人计算机发展奠定了重要的基础。之后，intel公司开始不断开发新的微处理器：1972年，8008微处理器;1974年，8080微处理器;1978年，8086、8088微处理器; 1982年，80286微处理器1989年，80486微处理器。

在1993年intel公司推出了后来家喻户晓的intel pentium微处理器，这款处理器更易于处理“现实世界”中的各类信息，近些年，intel又推出了intel core系列，是个人计算机性能有了很大幅度提高。也正是有了这样一代一代的微处理器出现，才使的个人计算机越来越方便，越来越普及。

我们现在所说的PC包含几大类，有台式机、笔记本、一体机、掌上电脑、平板电脑以及嵌入式电脑，这些电脑都属于PC类型，它为我们的生活提供了不可比拟的方便，增加了生活乐趣。

二、PC的诞生：

1981年8月12日是一个普通的日子，但对全球计算机产业来说则是一个值得纪念的日子。在这一天，IBM公司正式推出了全球第一台个人计算机——IBM PC，该机采用主频4.77MHz的Intel 8088微处理器，运行微软公司专门为IBM PC开发的MS-DOS操作系统。虽然早在IBM PC推出之前，天才神童“百科帽子”就已经在自家的车库里拼装出了世界上第一台微型计算机，使计算机从“蠢笨的大铁柜”变成人人伸手可及的小型机器。但是，IBM PC的诞生才真正具有划时代的意义，因为它首创了个人电脑(Personal　Computer)的概念，并为PC制订了全球通用的工业标准。它所用的处理器芯片来自Intel公司，DOS磁盘操作系统来自由32人组成的微软公司，不久之后就催生了微软和Intel这两大PC时代的霸主。直到今天，“IBM PC及其兼容机”始终是PC工业标准的代名词。
